SWEATSHOP GIRL – Selma Cervantes (Mexico, 2022) 16′

Inés works as a seamstress in a sweatshop where pregnancy tests are periodically administered. When she becomes pregnant, she is sure that her condition will get her fired. She does everything she can to keep it a secret.

During the first months of pregnancy, Ines is forced to falsify the test results with the complicity of a co-worker. When her accomplice is absent on the day of the new medical test, Inés spends the day trying to find way to keep her job.

Director – Selma Cervantes

In 2011 Selma started her filmmaking education at UNAM’s Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos. She directed and collaborated in several projects during her studies. In 2019 she won IMCINE’s 19º National Contest of Short Films Projects to create her short film Manchester Acatitla. which premiered at the Cinelatino Toulouse 2021.

She was also admitted to FONCA’s program “Jóvenes Creadores” to develop her script Farewell to the Flesh. She’s currently working on her new short film Sweatshop Girl starring oscar nominated actress Yalitza Aparicio.
